MORPHOLOGY OF THE ENCOUNTER at the CABO MAYOR ART CENTER in Santander
After its passage through Francisco de Goya’s room at the UNED in Barbastro, the series “Morfogía del Encuentro” arrives on July 11 at the Centro de Arte Cabo Mayor in Santander.
Morphology of the Encounter’ tells the story of Michael Burton Junior, a senior finance executive inspired by the Wall Street films of the 1980s, who is set to embark on a journey of initiation in the search, perhaps, for meaning in his life. The archetype of the character has managed to touch his professional ceiling, but apparently also his spiritual background. He believes that he has everything, money, power, women, as well as an incessant and corrosive dissatisfaction that gradually devours his whole being. This is how he has realized that the material has not managed to cover up the existential crack that he has been dragging along since his childhood and, before falling into complete madness, he will be willing to dive in and accept his shadow to undertake a real, as well as a symbolic-spiritual journey, for each of his fears and prejudices. His companion and confidant, James Schoendorff, will accompany him in this cathartic adventure, crossing a mental north pole loaded with icebergs that, perhaps, are none other than his spiritual freezing and the coldness of his reasoning. This journey will be contrasted by archetypal apparitions of the warrior woman (Amazons, Valkyries, Mugworts or perhaps the current female ones), which manifest their fears and desires, the “eros and tanatos” of the material, patriarchal-capitalist paradigm that Michael Burton Junior represents, claiming the necessary communion with their “other self” more emotional, feminine and spiritual.
